The first thing you want to do is check the door balance. Close the door, and disconnect the chain from the carriage or belt, so that the door lifts manually. If you open it up about halfway, and it stays in place, this means that the balance is fine. If it is not, you will need to call a technician.

Next, you want to do the contact reverse test. Basically, you will want to open the garage door and place a small two-by-four on the ground. Close the door, and when the door comes into contact with the board, it should open up again. If it does not, you will need to have someone adjust the downforce control limit or do it yourself by following your opener’s directions.

Additionally, check all the hinges, making sure they are tight and that you lubricate them. Make sure the hardware is tight and that the tracks are clean. Check the backup battery by operating the door with the plug out. There are many other things that are suggested in this video that you should do as well.
